When we welcomed our 8-week-old Labrador puppy, Winston (“Winnie”), into our lives, we knew it was important that he became a well-mannered, well-trained dog who could comfortably integrate into our home and lifestyle. Given his potential size, and our age,  we wanted to make sure we got his training right from the very beginning.

We came across Positively Pawsome Training Solutions on Facebook and enrolled in puppy classes with Sara. From the very first session, it was an absolutely fantastic experience for both Winnie and ourselves.

Sara created such a calm, safe, engaging, and informative environment for both the humans and the puppies. There was never a silly question, and Sara always took the time to listen to everyone’s experiences and concerns. Her relaxed and supportive approach immediately put us at ease.

Because we work from home, we became concerned that Winnie was struggling to settle outside without us nearby. Sara generously gave us additional time outside of puppy school hours to reassure us and provide positive, practical strategies to help Winnie become more independent. Every suggestion focused on creating a positive experience for Winnie, which we really appreciated.

After puppy school, we engaged Sara again to help improve Winnie’s walking skills. Instead of pulling us along everywhere, we wanted enjoyable walks together, and once again, Sara delivered immediate results through kind, positive training methods.

We later enrolled in the Beyond Basics course, and Winnie was beside himself with excitement to see Sara again (and his puppy school friend, Sir Teddy!). This course was another incredibly valuable experience. The skills the puppies learn are practical, effective, and useful in everyday life. Some of the most valuable commands for us have been “touch,” “come,” and “walk with us.” Winnie now has excellent recall, walks calmly beside us when needed, and still gets to happily sniff and enjoy the world around him.

Like many Labradors, Winnie can become excited and vocal, but through Sara’s positive reinforcement techniques we’ve successfully reduced these behaviours, and he is an absolute joy to be around.

We previously owned another beautiful Labrador, Frankie, and while she was a wonderful dog, we now realise how different training methods can be. In the past, we attended more traditional dog training classes that relied on choke chains and forceful corrections. It never felt right, and neither Frankie nor we enjoyed the experience.

Sara and Positively Pawsome Training Solutions have shown us that dog training does not need to involve fear, force, or dominance. Positive reinforcement is not only more humane, but also far more effective and enjoyable for both dogs and their owners.

We are genuinely so grateful to Sara for helping Winnie become the amazing companion he is today. Thank you, Sara
